What to do in surroundings?

Since town Zadar and its surrounding area, wider or nearer, is rich with National Parks, Nature Parks, rivers, canyons, mountains and charming little towns we’ve compiled the list only of those that are on your way to us and those that are not that far away. We have many guests that keep returning to us for years and they visit one of these destinations every year when they come to our apartments. Visit National Park Kornati islands

Fullday excursion – A splendid day on the sea! Archipelago with its 150 uninhabited islands, islets and reefs is the most indented island group in the Mediterranean. We will sail by boat from one island to another all the way to a bay of extraordinary beauty. It is a paradise for those who know how to enjoy the pure form of fascinating cristal sea. Visit Nature Park Telašćica

Nature Park Telašćica is a well known area of preserved nature, a contrast of highest cliffs on the Adria and peaceful coves and lake Mir. The Telašćica bay , after which the whole Nature Park got the name, is situated on the south-eastern part of the island Dugi otok. It is retracted into the land about 8 km and on its south side is the widest part of about 1.6 km. That part of the bay which is turned towards the south-east is open towards the neighbouring Kornati islands. The bay itself is very indented with 25 bays, capes and 5 islands.

Visit Nature Park lake Vransko

Vrana lake is the biggest natural lake in Croatia. Situated between mountains and Adriatic coast Vrana lake is one of the top birdwatching spots in Croatia. You can birdwatch, hike, cycle, rent a kayak, enjoy the Adventure Park or visit Kamenjak viewpoint for the most incredible views over the lake. It’s here that you will find a sightseeing point. From this height, you can see the smaller local islands and famous Kornati islands. The view is breathtaking.

Visit Zrmanja river canyon

River Zrmanja is one of the most beautiful rivers in Croatia. It springs in the southern part of Lika, and flows into the Novigrad Sea not far from Obrovac. It is known for its beautiful canyons and the most famous and impressive one is the one between Obrovac and the place where the river flows into the Novigrad Sea. This canyon has 200 m high cliffs that rise above the river and are a protected natural geomorphological monument. You can choose a boat trip on the river Zrmanja or an active trip such as kayaking, rafting or hiking.

 

Visit royal town of Nin

Nin is the oldest royal Croatian town and the place where the Croatian state was born. The town was founded by the Ilyrian tribe of Liburnians in the 9th century BC and known by the name Aenona. Nin was an important municipality and sea port during Roman empire. During medieval era Nin was political, religious and cultural centre of Croatia. The smallest cathedral in the world known as church of the Holy Cross and the coronation Church of St. Nicholas can be found here, as well as one of the word’s most beautiful beaches. Nin has a rich cultural treasure, unspoilt nature, as well as remarkably beautiful surroundings. The tradition of producing salt before your very eyes is a thousand years old and can be experienced in a local saltworks. Don’t miss the museum and house of Salt. https://www.nin.hr/en

 

Visit Novigrad and try local mussels

For many years, we have been cooperating with a family Martinović that organizes trips to Nature Park Telašćica and National Park Kornati islands by smaller ship. Compared to the competition, their offer is one of the most favorable. Check out some of the photos of the trips to both parks with their ship. We don’t make any money if we bring them guests. We are happy to leave our guests in good hands.

Visit National Park Paklenica

The greatest natural jewel of the Zadar area is Paklenica National Park, which covers the most attractive parts of the southern Velebit, concentrated in a mere 96 km2. Its most striking features are two forbidding gorges – Velika and Mala Paklenica. The park abounds with peculiar karstic forms, caves and other natural features, while due to its climate conditions, lush variety of flora and fauna has been preserved. Despite its wild nature, Paklenica is easily accessible due to its proximity to the Adriatic highway and the motorway. The vistas of Velebit rising above the resort of Starigrad-Paklenica, which are at once intimidating and alluring, beckon those seeking light-hearted adventure. Movement through the park is aided by numerous signs in several foreign languages. Through the wild ruggedness of Velika Paklenica, where highland women once carried salt on their backs from the coast and brought wheat from the fertile hinterland of Lika, today runs a comfortable hiking trail.  http://www.np-paklenica.hr/

Visit National Park Krka

For two-thirds of its course this virginally pure karstic river, with its seven magical waterfalls and which rises near the town of Knin, flows through canyons. The area is exceptionally rich in endemic flora and fauna, containing 222 types of bird. The watermills along the rivers and above the waterfalls, ruins of fortifications rising above the canyons, the picturesque mouth of the River Čikola above Skradinski buk waterfall – all are specific features of the river landscape. The Krka’s estuary, the 23.5 km-long Lake Pruklja, which reaches up to Skradinski buk is rich in shellfish, freshwater and saltwater fish. Sitting in Lake Visovac, between Roški slap and Skradinski buk (13 km) waterfalls, is a tiny island upon which, set amid a park of sylvan charm, is a Franciscan monastery with a long history. The Krka Monastery (Arhanđelovac) is located in the area of Kistanje, at the point where the canyon widens. The quiet river and lakes are ideal for canoe and kayak tours, but for which it is necessary to obtain a special permit. http://www.npkrka.hr/

Visit National Park Plitvice Lakes

The most beautiful and the most popular Croatian national park, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. A wondrous creation of forest landscapes snuggling between the mountains of Mala Kapela and Plješivica; a system of sixteen lakes interlinked by numerous waterfalls. The largest and highest of these lakes, resting on a dolomite bed, are Prošćansko jezero (639 m) and Kozjak; the lower lakes, covered in a layer of limestone, splash in a waterfall 136 m down, from whence the River Korana issues. The area also includes the primeval forest reserve of Čorkova uvala, where 120 types of bird and numerous caves still further enhance this unique landscape. The mountain climate makes for snow and ice across the mountains, forests, lakes and waterfalls from November to March. This park offers quite the most beautiful cycling and walking paths anywhere in Europe. If opting to travel instead by canoe, a special permit is required.
